Publication Ethics

Frontiers in Multidisciplinary Studies (FMS) adheres to the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing. We are committed to ensuring that all published research is original, reliable, and free from unethical practices. This Publication Ethics policy outlines the ethical guidelines and responsibilities of authors, reviewers, editors, and the journal itself.

1. Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting to FMS must adhere to the following ethical guidelines:

  • Originality: All submitted manuscripts must be original and not under consideration elsewhere. Authors should ensure that their work is free from plagiarism and properly cite all sources, including data, ideas, and content that are not their own.

  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Authors must acknowledge all sources of data and research used in their work. All citations and references must be accurate and complete.

  • Multiple Submissions: Authors must not submit the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously or submit previously published work without proper disclosure. Self-plagiarism (reuse of one's own previously published work) is not allowed.

  • Authorship: All contributors who have made substantial intellectual or practical contributions to the work should be included as authors. Authors should ensure that their list of co-authors is accurate and that all co-authors have agreed to the manuscript’s submission and final version.

  • Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or personal conflicts of interest that may affect the research or its interpretation. This includes any relationships or funding that could influence the research process.

  • Data Integrity: Authors must ensure that all data, methods, and results presented in the manuscript are accurate and reflect the true findings of the research. Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data is strictly prohibited.

  • Research Ethics: Authors should adhere to ethical guidelines for human and animal research. Manuscripts involving human subjects or animals should comply with ethical standards and include necessary approvals or consent from relevant authorities.

  • Changes to Authorship: Any changes to the authorship (such as adding or removing authors) after submission must be discussed and agreed upon by all co-authors. Such changes must be documented and supported by a formal request from the corresponding author.

2. Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers

Peer reviewers play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and quality of published research. Reviewers are expected to:

  • Objectivity: Reviewers should evaluate manuscripts based on scientific merit, clarity, and relevance, without bias or personal judgment. They must treat the manuscript as a confidential document and not disclose it to others.

  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must not share or discuss the contents of the manuscript with others, except as authorized by the editor. Any manuscript received for review must be treated as confidential and not used for personal gain.

  • Constructive Feedback: Reviewers should provide detailed, constructive, and respectful feedback that helps authors improve their manuscripts. Comments should focus on the content, methodology, and presentation, rather than the authors personally.

  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest that could affect their impartiality. If a reviewer feels they have a conflict, they must recuse themselves from the review process.

  • Timeliness: Reviewers should complete their reviews within the agreed-upon timeframe. If a reviewer is unable to complete the review on time, they should inform the editor so an alternative reviewer can be found.

3. Ethical Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for upholding the integrity of the journal’s publication process. They are expected to:

  • Decision-Making: Editors make publication decisions based on the quality, originality, and relevance of the manuscript, in alignment with the journal's scope. They should consider the feedback from reviewers but also use their own expertise to make final decisions.

  • Confidentiality: Editors must ensure that all manuscripts and correspondence remain confidential. They should not disclose details about a manuscript to anyone other than the reviewers, authors, and necessary editorial staff.

  • Fairness: Editors should evaluate manuscripts solely based on scientific merit and relevance to the journal’s scope, without bias toward the authors’ identities, affiliations, or personal relationships.

  • Conflict of Interest: Editors must avoid any conflicts of interest. If an editor has a conflict of interest related to a submitted manuscript, they must recuse themselves from the decision-making process and ensure that the manuscript is handled by another editor.

  • Transparency and Accountability: Editors should be transparent about the editorial process, including the peer review process, and ensure that all authors and reviewers follow the journal’s ethical standards.

  • Handling Misconduct: Editors should take appropriate action if any ethical violations, such as plagiarism, data fabrication, or unethical research practices, are identified. This may include retracting published articles or notifying the relevant authorities.

4. Ethical Responsibilities of the Journal

The journal itself is committed to the following ethical practices:

  • Transparency: FMS is committed to transparency in the publication process. We ensure clear and consistent communication with authors, reviewers, and readers. Manuscripts are reviewed based on scientific merit, and decisions are communicated promptly.

  • Quality Control: The journal applies a rigorous peer review process and editorial oversight to maintain high standards of academic quality. We ensure that all manuscripts published meet the journal’s scope, relevance, and quality standards.

  • Integrity: FMS maintains a strict policy against plagiarism, data manipulation, and other unethical research practices. We use plagiarism detection tools to ensure the originality of submitted manuscripts.

  • Reproducibility: We encourage authors to provide sufficient details about their research methodologies and data, allowing other researchers to replicate the studies where appropriate.

  • Corrections and Retractions: If errors or ethical violations are identified in a published article, the journal will issue corrections, retractions, or clarifications as necessary. The journal is committed to maintaining the integrity of the academic record.

  • Compliance with Ethical Guidelines: FMS adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and other relevant international ethical standards for publishing.

5. Handling Ethical Violations

In case of suspected ethical violations, FMS follows a transparent and fair process to investigate the issue. If misconduct is confirmed, the manuscript may be retracted, and the authors may be barred from future submissions. The journal may also report the issue to the relevant academic institutions or funding bodies if necessary.
